Picture this… It’s actually sunny in the UK, you have a whole week of annual leave ahead of you, and a spa break booked. Bliss!
I was doing my weekly Sunday morning scroll when I spotted that the Titanic Spa in Huddersfield had a 2-for-1 offer on including the spa facilities, lunch, dinner, overnight stay, and breakfast. One definitely not to be missed.
The UK’s first eco spa, the Titanic Spa prides itself on being a pioneer of sustainability, with an energy-efficient building, their own water source and organic and locally sourced food. As a lover and regular goer of spas, many of my friends have recommended that I go along, so we made sure to get on the phone asap and book the deal.

The roads were windy, and I feared for my life a few times as my little Fiat 500, Florentina, struggled to get up and down the hills, but as we finally pulled into the car park, I breathed a huge sigh of relief. However, my first impressions were very different to what I expected. I genuinely don’t know what I thought, but being greeted by a renovated 20th-century textile mill was not it. I had my concerns heading in yet these were completely unfounded as we headed into the entrance and were hit by a wave of serenity.
Photos of the day were extremely limited as they do ask that you keep your phone in your locker, but there’s plenty on their website to give you an idea of what to expect.
As we checked in and picked up our dressing gown and slippers, we were reminded we had added the brunch to our booking, and opted to add a hot stone massage each. Check-in for the apartment wasn’t until 2 however, we had full access to the facilities until 9pm (outdoor hot tub closes at 8) and from 8am-10am the next morning.
As we’d arrived at 10:30 and brunch finishes at 11 (plus I was absolutely ravenous), we opted straight for food. We were impressed with the menu, with a mix of hot and cold options. Nathan went for the chorizo and paprika beans on sourdough (posh beans and sausage), and I went for an all-time favourite salmon and cream cheese on toast.

After a dip in the pool, where Nathan tried to teach me how to properly swim, and a laze in the very hot outdoor hot tub, suddenly it was lunch time. Again, we were extremely impressed with the food options, and I found it impossible to choose but opted for the lemon and herb chicken penne pasta with a side of Prosecco.

A major highlight of the spa is the Heat & Ice experience. This goes well beyond your typical sauna and steam room. With a Saunarium, Aromatherapy Room, Sauna, Ice Room, Foot Baths, Plunge Pool, Crystal Steam Room, Experience Showers, Herbal Fusion Room, we could have spent all day here.
There’s also a mud chamber for an additional charge (IIRC, it’s £35 each), however, we opted not to go for this, this time. A must try next time though.
We tried each room, and I even took a dip in the plunge pool, though, I can’t say that was the most relaxing experience of my life. Nathan’s a big fan of a standard Nordic sauna, however, we both enjoyed the Ice Room, chilly but willingly rubbing ice on ourselves was a novelty.
The apartments were great. Absolutely ENORMOUS. For just the 2 of us, we had 2 big bedrooms, one with an en-suite, a kitchen, diner and living room, complete with a basket of goodies for our breakfast. However, our favourite part was the view.

Ahead of our 3pm massages, we nosied into the relaxation lounge. I officially need one in my house. There must have been over 100 bean bags in that one room, plus a crackling (virtual) fireplace, low lighting, and beds with reading lamps. I’d taken my kindle with me for the occasion, and loved curling up with a good book. However, the inner child in me found it so hard to resist running and bellyflopping on all of the bean bags…
If I wasn’t relaxed enough already, it was time for our massages. I’ve never had a hot stone massage before but Nathan swears by them. As I’ve been suffering with a few aches and pains from running and working out, I decided to give one a go. I am so glad I did. 55 minutes has never gone so fast… I’ve also never been so relaxed in my life.
We did ask about the VIP room which includes a glass of bubbly each, chocolates, and one room for both massages, however, it was booked up. Serves us right for leaving things to the last minute!
Our dinner had been booked in for 6:30 so after a couple more hours in the Heat & Ice rooms, we headed up to get changed (nothing too fancy, and definitely no make up).
Whilst I’m known for always opting for whatever meal has mash included, this time I shocked even myself for picking the Cod tagliatelle and Nathan opted for the Ox Cheek. We also had hummus and King prawns to start, so were feeling rather full by the end. Despite being advised not to drink too much alcohol after our massage, our anniversary was a good enough excuse to get a bottle of Pinot Grigio.

Finally, we headed to the champagne and cocktail lounge, Bar11. The bar was genuinely stunning, and a completely different vibe to the rest of the spa. We were both huge fans of the aesthetic and it was good to see a range of cocktails on the menu. Not badly priced at all either, especially for a captive audiences.

As all your extras are added to the room, it’s easy to go mad, however, even with a bottle of wine, Prosecco, beer, cocktails, and added starters, our final bill wasn’t bad at all.
I must say, I’ve definitely had better cocktails. I’m 90% sure that my first cocktail (Divine Bakewell) wasn’t meant to have blended raspberries in it… However, the Pornstar Martini on the 2nd round was very nice. Nathan’s was that nice, he had the same one twice – The Mudslide.

After a busy day, we went to bed very relaxed, sleepy, and full. A slightly sore head the next morning that was cured by a couple more hours in the pool to help with the drive home.
We had a fantastic time at the Titanic Spa and could have spent a couple of days here. Next time, it would be good to make the most of it and go for a nice walk in the Peak District, plus adding a facial and the mud chamber to really go all out!
Do keep an eye on their social media, particularly Facebook and Instagram, and their website as they have regular mid-week deals that are excellent value. I know we’ll definitely be going back!
Bonus tip: On the way home, and about 5 minutes away from the spa, there’s a brilliant farm shop and cafe, Bolston Moor. With sheep next door, and tasty breakfasts, make sure you get yourself to it.
